European and international policy is made in Brussels. As DLR Projektträger, we are working on the ground, contributing to finding cross-border solutions to the critical challenges of our time. Brussels is the political heart of the European Union. It is home to the most important EU institutions, national and regional representations, offices of research organisations, associations and numerous non-governmental organisations. Just as importantly, Brussels is also a stage for international players from all over the world. Those who are well established, recognised and have a robust network here can contribute to the shaping of policy and research agendas addressing the societal challenges of our time.

European and international interface between policy and research, education and innovation

DLR Projektträger has been active in Brussels for many years. Since 2019, it is officially represented in the DLR office on site, and acts as a European and international bridge between DLR Projektträger's experts and stakeholders from research, education, innovation and political organisations and administrations active in Brussels.

The aim of our work in Brussels is to actively shape the interface between European and international policy with relevant stakeholders. We place future-oriented topics on European and international agendas, monitor research, education and innovation policy developments, build new and foster established networks. We are in regular dialogue with representatives from EU institutions and other European and international players.

Our dialogue format: the Brussels FutureTalks – Paving the way for tomorrow, today

This is the leitmotif of the Brussels: FutureTalks series organised by DLR Projektträger. The aim is to offer stakeholders a platform for open dialogue on future-oriented topics and the opportunity to build new networks. From strategic foresight to science and urban diplomacy to the EU missions and knowledge security: We drive an open, future-oriented dialogue on our priority topics and have already made a contribution to the Conference on the Future of Europe and promoted exchange during the European Year of Skills.

Our mandates on site

TRAMi – the TRAnsnational cooperation on the MIssions approach

The EU has set itself ambitious goals with the introduction of "mission-oriented policies" in order to master current challenges such as climate change. To implement this approach in all EU member states and to support the establishment of a community of practice, the "European Missions Network" (EMiN) has been set up as part of the EU-funded project TRAMi ("the TRAnsnational cooperation on the MIssions approach") under the leadership of DLR Projektträger office in Brussels.

European Union Science Diplomacy Alliance

The European Union Science Diplomacy Alliance emerged from three Horizon 2020 projects in 2021. The aim is to expand and network expertise and capacities in the field of science diplomacy, advise policymakers, develop joint research topics and form powerful consortia. The Brussels office held the Alliance chair in the second half of 2021. Since 2023, the European Science Diplomacy Alliance has been partially funded by the EU Commission with the aim of strengthening the network.
