"Qualitätsoffensive Lehrerbildung" – improving teacher training sustainably
Teachers are crucial for good education. The demands on this profession and on the training of future teachers have increased considerably over the past few years, for example with regard to digital teaching or diversity in the classroom.
Strong together for teacher education
In order to already optimally prepare future teachers for this dynamic and socially highly relevant profession at the universities, the Federal-Länder programme "Qualitätsoffensive Lehrerbildung" (QLB) was launched in 2015. It supports reforms underway at universities and breaks new ground in teacher education. Since 2020, a total of 91 projects from 72 higher education institutions in all Federal States have been funded.
The projects are working, for example, on establishing teacher training even better in the structures of higher education institutions and strengthening cooperation with schools and further education institutions. They develop teaching and counselling concepts to improve the practical relevance of teacher training, to prepare future teachers to deal with the cultural diversity of pupils and social challenges such as climate protection, and to make them fit for the use of digital media.
A partner in all technical and administrative matters
Since the beginning of the Federal-Länder Programme, DLR Projektträger has acted as an interface between the commissioning Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the potential funding recipients. We advise the BMBF on all technical and administrative issues. We accompany interested parties and applicants on their way to funding, supervise the respective review process, check the funding applications and are the permanent contact for the entire duration of the projects. We promote professional exchange between projects, provide information on the programme, report on results and monitor the national and international programme environment.
A congress organised with 800 stakeholders
One special focus is on communication. Through intensive, multimedia public relations work such as the regularly published QLB newsletter, film contributions, brochures and numerous programme-accompanying events, we successfully promote exchange between all teacher training institutions in Germany. At the hybrid 3rd QLB Programme Congress, for example, around 800 stakeholders from politics, science and practice came together to discuss challenges and successful examples from the projects. It became clear there that the "Quality Initiative Teacher Education" had already sustainably improved teacher education. This has also been confirmed by the evaluation of the programme.
Publications
In order to publicise the "Qualitätsoffensive Lehrerbildung" funding programme, to discuss fields of action and challenges in teacher education, and to highlight approaches to solutions by the participating projects, the programme support team produces a digital newsletter and various publications.
Five times a year, the newsletter provides information about central topics of teacher education and the results and findings of the projects.
To all previous issues
Programme brochures show what the projects are doing in the central topics of the programme. Specialised brochures focus on current research topics such as practice orientation or inclusion.
