27th February 2024 — In February 2024, the Regional Cooperation Council (RCC) published the trend study "Unleashing the Potential for Competitiveness: Trends in the Western Balkans", authored by DLR Projektträger. The study examines the potential impact of trends on the region's competitiveness and provides success stories that could benefit the Western Balkans. Using Strategic Foresight methods, the study provides evidence-based insights that enable governments and businesses to prepare for future developments and formulate effective policy options and strategies.

Evidence-based trend analysis to inform policy decisions

The study focuses on four key areas defined in the World Economic Forum's Global Competitiveness Report: The framework for innovation, human capital, markets and the innovation ecosystem. Trends were identified, analysed and discussed through desk research, a series of interviews and expert workshops. The analysis provides a comprehensive outlook on the likely development of competitiveness in the Western Balkans over the next decade.
