Brussels FutureTalks "One Health in Action"

28th May 2025 — DLR Projektträger (DLR-PT) combines science-based knowledge and expertise across all major societal aspects, fostering interdisciplinary thinking to address research and policy advice related to the key challenges of human, environmental, animal, plant and ecosystem health. Our understanding that all of this is intrinsically interconnected continues to grow. However, to translate this knowledge into viable action, we need interdisciplinary research on and practical implementation of a wider approach to health. Such approach, as embedded in the One Health concept, is profoundly challenging and demands inter- and transdisciplinary collaboration between researchers, practitioners and policy decision makers.

In recent years, the UN and the EU have taken multiple steps to develop One Health on the governance level. Their assessments point to the urgent need to strengthen planetary health and well-being within the current One Health activities. Efforts towards creating a healthier environment for healthier people hold the promise to reduce the economic, ecological and social impacts we have experienced in the past. By addressing the interconnected planetary crises of climate change, nature/biodiversity loss, environmental pollution, waste and human health in a holistic manner, we can achieve multi-level synergistic gains for our societies.

This high-level seminar aims to catalyse tangible action by showcasing healthier-environment policy innovation and community-level implementation in order to harvest planetary health benefits within the One Health approach.
