Event: Brussels FutureTalks on the implementation of EU missions

5th September 2023 — The EU has set ambitious goals with its missions to address current societal challenges such as climate change and ocean protection. The official launch of the EU missions took place in 2021. After two years, it is now time for a first résumé.

How can the progress of the missions be assessed? How is the implementation of EU missions working at national level? On 19 July, the European Commission published a communication on “EU-Missions two years on: assessment of progress and way forward”. The paper concludes that the missions have demonstrated their potential. However, they still face major challenges. Improvements are needed in governance and political steering, as well as in ensuring co-investment. In addition, greater involvement of both citizens and stakeholders is needed.

The sixth edition of the Brussels: FutureTalks event series now offers the opportunity to talk about the results from the Commission paper, whilst also considering European and national (specifically Austrian and German) perspectives and experiences. The event offers experts from mission implementation and coordination the opportunity to network, draw lessons from national experiences and jointly develop new solutions.

Together with the Austrian Research Promotion Agency (FFG), the DLR Projektträger is taking on a facilitator role at the event, opening the door for an exchange of expertise and practical experience and providing expert input with its own contributions. Klaus Uckel, Head of the DLR Projektträger, will speak about the role of project management agencies in the implementation of the missions.

The event will take place on 20 September in the premises of the Permanent Representation of Austria to the European Union. Unfortunately, virtual participation is not possible.
