9th November 2022 — The motto of this year's Transfer Workshop is "Transfer 2S+ – A plus through strategic and system-immanent transfer for a sustainable science system?". The topic of the two-day attendance event in the Bolle Festival Halls in Berlin is the future direction of knowledge and technology transfer at German research institutions, in industry and in society. Within the framework of the conference, the participants will also deal with questions of the cultural and organisational integration of transfer into the science system.

Mario Brandenburg, Parliamentary State Secretary at the BMBF and BMBF Commissioner for Transfer and Spin-offs from Science, is to open the conference with a welcome address. Transfer experts from science and industry will provide interesting impulses and insights into their work, explain innovative approaches and show examples of system-immanent transfer. Poster sessions and networking activities are to round off the event. More information on the conference and the funding line can be obtained on the newly designed website, where you can also find this year's conference programme and the registration form.

Promoting transfer through "Innovation Orientation in Research

Targeted transfer of knowledge and technology from research to application – this is the goal of the BMBF's "Innovation Orientation in Research" funding line, which is primarily aimed at the four major non-university research institutions: the Fraunhofer Society, the Helmholtz Association, the Leibniz Association and the Max Planck Society. Often, the transfer of research results from science is only considered when the results are already available. This path can be better designed if the utilisation of the results is thought through as an inherent part of the system. This is where the BMBF funding line implemented by DLR Projektträger comes in. It supports non-university research institutions in developing new instruments and methods of knowledge and technology transfer and thus promotes the transfer of research strategies into innovation strategies – from inventions into innovations. In doing so, DLR Projektträger also provides impulses on how fundamental ideas for new methods can be fitted into funding.

In addition to the administrative and technical core tasks of project funding, DLR Projektträger experts advise the BMBF within the funding line on strategic issues, such as the further design of the funding. In addition, DLR Projektträger organises and conducts the annual transfer workshops, an important component of the funding line. It networks the actors in the transfer scene and thus facilitates and promotes a broad exchange of experience. Alternating annually, the transfer workshops are geared towards an exchange among the funding recipients and, in the following year, towards a broader public with business, science and politics, as well as overarching topics of knowledge and technology transfer.
