Fit for the future – Strategic foresight at the UNGA77 Science Summit
14th September 2022 — Accompanying the 77th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), the UNGA77 Science Summit is to run from the 13th to the 30th September 2022. This science summit brings together thousands of stakeholders from science, innovation, policy, finance and media to develop and discuss solutions for the 17 SDGs. The meeting is taking place on site in New York City and online worldwide. DLR Projektträger is participating with a session on the role of strategic foresight in achieving the SDGs.

In the session "Fit for the futures: Strategic Foresight 4 SDGs", DLR-Projektträger will be discussing the role of strategic foresight in achieving the 17 SDGs together with experts from politics and science.

Addressing the SDGs through Strategic Foresight
The 17 SDGs are at the heart of the "2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development". They are an urgent call from the United Nations for all countries to act together now to secure the future of our planet. Current developments – geopolitical, economic and climatic – are leading to new challenges that must be taken into account when implementing the SDGs. Whether and how this succeeds depends heavily on the ability to methodically develop possible future scenarios and derive political action from them in the here and now. Strategic foresight is an important methodological tool for this which is increasingly being used by DLR Projektträger, but has not yet found its way into all policy areas.
This is precisely where the session "Fit for the futures: Strategic Foresight 4 SDGs", organised by DLR Projektträger on the 22nd September 2022, comes in. At this event, experts from politics and science will discuss the benefits of strategic foresight, its use for the implementation of the SDGs and various plausible methods to better prepare for the future.
Valued expertise around SDGs and Strategic Foresight
When it comes to strategic foresight, DLR Projektträger is a renowned player in the German-speaking community and at EU level. Last year, DLR Projektträger was also present at the UNGA76 Science Summit, where Executive Director Klaus Uckel outlined his vision of global cooperation in science at the opening session "How science will support the attainment of the SDGs" – with the central message that "We must leave no one behind".
