Event: Brussels FutureTalks „Urban Diplomacy“
28th October 2022 — What role do cities play in addressing global challenges? What innovative tools and instruments does urban diplomacy offer for shaping external relations – especially in times of upheaval? And what distinguishes urban diplomacy from classic city partnerships? These and similar questions will be addressed at the workshop Urban Diplomacy: Cities as Partners & Innovators in Diplomacy? organised by the DLR Projektträger together with the Institut für qualifizierende Innovationsforschung und -beratung (IQIB) and the SciTech DiploHub (Barcelona). As the fourth edition of the Brussels: FutureTalks event series, it will take place for the first time in presence.
DLR Projektträger organises exchange on urban diplomacy
The workshop brings together experts and practitioners from cities, politics, networks and UN organisations. It offers them the opportunity to network, learn lessons from already tested approaches to urban diplomacy and jointly develop new solution options. Urban diplomacy is currently on the rise, especially in transformative thematic areas such as climate, migration and technology. However, much remains to be done, be it because there is a lack of exchange on foreign and security policy risks in many places or because actors at the municipal level do not have the appropriate tools to become active themselves. Together with the SciTech DiploHub (Barcelona), the DLR Projektträger is taking on a facilitator role here, facilitating the exchange of expertise and practice and positioning urban diplomacy as an innovation driver.
The event will take place on 8 November at the DLR Projektträger‘s premises in Brussels. Unfortunately, virtual participation is not possible. Participation is by personal invitation.
