24th August 2021 — Gamescom 2021 will take place from the 25th to the 27th August 2021. As in the previous year, the world's largest trade fair for computer games will be completely digital. This time, DLR-PT will be attending virtually – as part of its effort to support computer games funding via the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure (BMVI).

With more than ten million expected participants, Gamescom is the event of the computer games scene. An interactive highlight from last year's event is being relaunched – in a sort of "MMO" (massively multiplayer online game), participants can follow the events of the trade fair via streaming channels or have a look around the virtual trade fair grounds as avatars and get in touch with others. Here, DLR-PT will also be present with avatars it has created itself, providing advice on the Federal Government's support for computer games ¬– and breaking new ground in customer dialogue.

"Avatars are popular in games culture. So it is only natural, and of course an exciting adventure, for us in computer games promotion to also network with the community via avatars and to offer our service in a customer-oriented way," says Nicole May, officer for the computer games promotion programme. "At the same time, this benefits from the playful environment and lowers the inhibition threshold to get in touch with us as project sponsors."

Computer games funding at DLR-PT

In order to promote both the economic growth of the games industry and the overall social potential which digital games culture and its innovations hold, the BMVI has been supporting computer games developers with a total of 250 million euros since 2019. DLR-PT is tasked with implementing the funding and, among other things, advises and supports funded and interested parties. The newly formed PT team can draw on their expertise ranging from art design to funding law.

Interested parties can register for a free virtual visit to the fair at www.gamescom.de. The stand for computer games funding is located in the Indie Arena Booth.
